Vientiane Trekking to Waterfalls and Wild Orchid Field 2D/1N

Itinerary

Day 1: Vientiane, Pha Xay, Ban Hatkai (Meals:L,D)
7.30 AM You will be picked up from your hotel in Vientiane city Center then we start our first day tour to wild orchid fields and Tad Xay Waterfall. The driving time is approximately 2 hours. You’ll arrive in the village of Ban Hatkhay. Here, you are going to meet the local guide, the expert for Lao orchid. Afterwards, you continue to drive through the small road among the paddy field to Ban Pha Say.  Your orchid trek will start from here.

You move slowly on small trails and discover shade different forest types: semi-deciduous jungles, bamboo, accompanied by two guides and an expert on orchids.  Do not be surprised by abundance of orchids in some places, all the rocks are covered! Some biotopes are extraordinary. You will also have the opportunity to learn many things on medicinal plants and other plant families such as: Cane, the Gingers, the Dypterocarpes ...  The picnic will be in the bed of a dry river any part of the year.

Afternoon, you can have a swim at the waterfall of Tad Say or just wonder the surrounding area before returning to Ban Hatkhai where we stay over night in a villager’s home. That will give us a great opportunity to learn more about local life and customs and interact with villagers.

Day 2: Ban Hatkai, Tad Leuk (Meals:B)
The morning around we leave the village and after short drive we will reach the Tad Leuk Waterfall. Guided by local orchids expert we will hike for around 2 hours trough dense forest along the river until we reach the beautifull Tad Sang (Elephant Waterfall) waterfall! This is idyllic place for bathing and relaxation. Enjoy lunch in this scenary. In afternoon we will continue hiking in trought dense forest, bamboo forest and keep your eyes open as along the way, a large number of orchids can be seen, especially in wet season. After hiking we start our way back to Vientiane. On the way it is possible to visit the information center to see photos and explanations on the fauna and flora of Phou Khao Khouay park.
